Originated by the cooks of the royal Mughal kitchens, this dish consists of rice cooked in oil prepared with aromatic cumin seeds. Though originally meant only for the taste buds of the royal court members, this dish eventually gained so much popularity that it is now a staple of most Indian and Pakistani households. Served with a variety of curries, this fragrant dish is fit for royalty.

Ingredients

    • Oil3 – 4 tablespoons
    • Cumin seeds1 tablespoon
    • Rice basmati pre - soaked½ KG
    • Saltto taste

Preparation

  • In a pot, heat the oil. Then add cumin seeds saute until it crackles.
  • Add rice and mix.
  • Add water, salt and mix.
  • Cover the lid and cook for 10 minutes or until the rice is fluffy.
