Masala Puri


Similar to other forms of chaat, masala puri originated in South India and is now enjoyed as a snack across the subcontinent. A delicious blend of vegetables, herbs, spices, and grains- this is a healthy snack to munch on, especially at iftaari.

    • Oil2 - 3 tablespoons
    • Onions2, Sliced
    • Chickpeas1 Cup
    • Peas1 Cup
    • WaterAs required
    • Red Chilli Powder1 tablespoon
    • Turmeric powder½ teaspoon
    • Garlic Paste1 teaspoon
    • Ginger Paste1 teaspoon
    • Garam Masala1 tablespoon
    • SaltTo taste
    • Fennel Seeds1 teaspoon
    • Khatai Powder1 teaspoon
    • Green Chilli1, Chopped
    • Tamarind Chatni1 teaspoon
    • Potatoes1 – 2, cubed
    • Tomatoes1 – 2, chopped


  • In a wok add oil and onions. Mix well until the onions turn brown.
  • Then add chickpeas and peas. Mix well.
  • Then add water, red chilli powder, turmeric, ginger-garlic paste, garam masala and mix well until all ingredients are combined.
  • Then add salt, fennel seeds, khatai powder, green chillies, tamarind pulp, potatoes, tomatoes and mix well.
  • Squeeze a lemon. Then add coriander powder and cumin yogurt. Mix well.
  • Then add chaat masala and mix well. Simmer for 5 minutes.
