Daal Gosht Handi

Home-made daal gosht is a scrumptious beef dish. The tender meat curry is full of flavors that goes along well, specifically with Arhar daal / Tur Daal (split pigeon pea lentils). Giving a rich taste to the gravy Daal gosht is a dish that can be made at the time of lunch and dinner. It is better served with rice or tandoori naans.

Ingredients

    • Beef1/2 KG
    • Ghee1/2 cup
    • Onion paste1 cup
    • Ginger garlic, paste1 tablespoon
    • Tomato puree1 cup
    • Tomato paste2 tablespoons
    • Whole red chili4 -5
    • Ground Cumin1 teaspoon
    • Ground Coriander1 teaspoon
    • Garam masala1 teaspoon
    • Kashmiri chili powder1 teaspoon
    • Turmeric powder½ teaspoon
    • Red chili powder1 teaspoon
    • Saltto taste
    • Water½ liter
    • Pigeon pea lentils, soaked½ Kilogram
    • Green chilies3 – 4
    • Fresh coriander, choppedfor garnish

Preparation

  • Heat ghee over medium flame in a medium pot and saute onion paste until translucent.
  • Add ginger garlic paste and saute well.
  • Add beef and stir well until it is no longer pink.
  • Add the tomato puree and stir well.
  • Then add the tomato paste and mix well.
  • Now add the whole red chilli, ground coriander, ground cumin, garam masala, Kashmiri red chilli powder, turmeric powder, red chilli powder, and salt. Stir well.
  • Add half litre of water along with pre soaked pigeon pea lentil, tur daal, and stir.
  • Then add green chilies, cover the lid, and cook on low flame for 15 minutes until the meat is tender and lentils have cooked completely.
  • Stir and garnish with freshly chopped coriander and green chilies.
