Chicken Nizami


Chicken Nizami is a rich, creamy dish made from cubed chicken with cashew nuts, cream and spices. It is said that this dish is a delicacy that comes from the lands of Nizams. It contains mildly spiced gravy and is a scrumptious dish perfect for family dinners served with naan, rice or roti.

    • Chicken boneless, cubes1 kilogram
    • Peppercorn½ teaspoon
    • Cashew nuts, chopped½ cup
    • Poppy seeds½ teaspoon
    • Saltto taste
    • Turmeric powder½ teaspoon
    • Kashmiri chili2 – 3
    • Ghee½ cup
    • Onion, sliced1 – 2
    • Bay leaf1
    • Cloves½ teaspoon
    • Cinnamon½ stick
    • Ginger paste1 teaspoon
    • Garlic paste1 teaspoon
    • Yogurt½ cup
    • Red chilli powder1 teaspoon
    • Coconut milk cream¼ cup
    • Fresh cream1 cup
    • Green chiliesfor garnish
    • Freshly chopped corianderfor garnish
    • Naanfor serving


  • Combine peppercorn, cashew nuts, poppy seeds, salt to taste, turmeric powder, and Kashmiri red chilies together in a grinder and grind into a coarse powder.
  • Heat ghee in a medium-sized pot and saute sliced onions until translucent.
  • Add the bay leaf, cloves, and cinnamon stick. Mix well until an aroma rises.
  • Add cubed chicken and stir.
  • Add ginger garlic paste and mix well.
  • Add blended masala and stir well into the chicken.
  • Add the whipped yogurt, mix well, cover the lid, and simmer for 5 to 10 minutes.
  • Add the red chili powder and stir.
  • Add the coconut milk cream and stir well.
  • Then add fresh cream and mix well.
  • Garnish with freshly chopped coriander and chilies. Serve alongside naans.
