Balti Prawns

A classic curry made by cooking prawns with spices. Balti gets it name from the steel pot in which the curry is cooked. The sizzling prawn curry is delicious,easy to make and can be served with rice.

Ingredients

    • Onion, sliced3

    • Tomato, chopped2-3

    • Prawns½ kg
    • Cooking Oil3 tablespoons
    • Onion paste1 cup
    • Ginger garlic paste1 tablespoon
    • Red chili powder1 tablespoon
    • Ground turmeric½ teaspoon
    • Garam masala½ teaspoon
    • Saltto taste
    • Ground coriander seeds½ teaspoon
    • Ground cumin seeds½ teaspoon
    • Tomato paste1 tablespoon
    • Tomato puree1 cup
    • Butter1 tablespoon
    • Lemon juice1 tablespoon
    • Green chili2-3
    • Fresh corianderchopped

Preparation

  • For onion paste: blend chopped onions with water to make a paste. Save for later use.
  • For tomato paste: blend chopped tomatoes with water to make puree. Save for later use.
  • In a small pot, heat oil and sauté the onion paste.
  • Add ginger garlic paste, sauté till fragrant.
  • Stir in prawns for a good 2 minutes.
  • Add in red chilli powder, ground turmeric, garam masala, salt, ground coriander, ground cumin and mix well.
  • Mix the tomato paste and tomato puree together.
  • Add butter and lemon juice, mix well, and cover the lid. Cook on low flame for 5 minutes.
  • Add chopped green chilies and mix. Garnish with chopped coriander and serve it with rice.
