Coffee Beans Are Actually Seeds

Coffee beans aren’t actually beans at all, but in fact are the pit of a coffee cherry. They have only famously begun to be known as beans due to their distinct shape.

Coffee dates back to 800 BCE

There are many stories regarding the origins of coffee, but the most famous dates back to a goat herder in Ethiopia in the 9th Century. The young herder noticed how active his goats were after they consumed the local plant. After this, he brought the cherries home and tried them himself. 

Espresso comes from the Italian word to press

Espresso machines date back to the late 1800s, but did you know that the term is actually Italian and refers to the action of pressing out. This is because the Espresso machine presses a small amount of water through ground coffee beans to produce an even smaller and thicker drink.

Coffee can help you live longer

Contrary to what you may have heard, coffee is one of the healthiest beverages to drink due to the large amount of antioxidants it contains. When combined with a healthy diet, coffee can actually help you live longer.

There are two main types: Arabica and Robusta

Coffee growers plant two types of coffee the Arabica and the Robusta, the latter of which is much more expensive. This has meant that the fact that Robusta coffee is less popular among growers.

Brazil produces the most coffee in the world

Brazil produces close to a third of the world’s supply of coffee and about twice as much as the second-largest coffee producer, Vietnam.
